Allendale Elementary presents the Math Thrill ! All students at Allendale Elementary School use the computer program Math Facts in a Flash to improve their fluency with math facts. The program is set up in levels for which timed tests will be administered. Every student is expected to pass between 18 and 23 levels, depending on their grade. Students work in 30-minute sessions in the computer lab working on their tests and corresponding practice problems each week. Our goal with this program is to help our students build fluency in such a way that they have an automatic, instant recall of their facts. This ability will enable students to have greater success with mathematical concepts as they advance through math topics. If you'd like to know more about the specifics of how the actual software works, you can visit the publisher's website at http://www.renlearn.com/mf/ . The actual program is only accessible from Allendale's computers, but students can easily practice their basic facts at home between testing sessions. Practicing facts outside of school can be done in a variety of ways. Oral fact practice can be done at home, on car rides, in waiting rooms, and more! Flashcards are another quick and easy way to reinforce math facts. Also, there are countless websites that promote the development of math fact fluency. The problems have mixed values. Math Magician You can select the specific facts that you want to practice. Printable Flash Cards You can print flashcards from this site for all four operations.

| To further encourage students' passion about learning their math facts, we have created an event called the Math Thrill. Students who pass four test levels with 100% accuracy within a single month are entered into a raffle to win that month's Math Thrill for all of the students in their entire class. The drawings are held live on WAES, Allendale Elementary School's student-operated news program, which is broadcast daily at 9:15 on all school televisions. The winning ticket for each month is drawn by the student who won the previous thrill. Each month is scheduled to feature a different Math Thrill, which are made possible thanks to donations from area businesses. We would like to thank these businesses and encourage members of our community to patronize their business to show the appreciation we have for their generous support.
